Representatives from Advance Savings Credit Union, OMISTA Credit Union, and PSE Credit Union presented a cheque for $1500 to Mobile One Community Service, which operates Moncton’s mobile soup kitchen bus and five mobile food pantries serving people as far away as Harcourt and Bass River.
“As recently reported in the news, Mobile One Community Service currently find themselves in a financial crisis situation and the local Credit Unions felt it was important to support them through this difficult time,” says Jennifer Marr, Community Promotions Officer for Advance Savings. “Credit Unions, by their very nature, are community oriented and we feel that Mobile One provides a critical service for the less fortunate in our community. We also want to encourage local residents and businesses to consider making a donation for this worthy cause.”
In 2008, the Mobile One soup kitchen bus served 36,260 meals to all those in need on the streets of Moncton. Through its five mobile pantries, Mobile One served an additional 64,651 meals to families throughout the Metropolitan area and as far away as Bass River and Harcourt in Kent County. In fact, Mobile One served over 100,000 meals in 2008 on revenue of $ 114,682.00. In other words, it cost Mobile One only $1.14 for every meal it served in 2008. It’s the story of doing great work for those in need at better than reasonable cost.
