We are pleased
to announce the official amalgamation of Advance Savings
Credit Union and The Rexton Credit Union effective January
2, 2009. Both credit unions closed their respective doors on
December 31st, 2008 and reopened on January 2, 2009 as
Advance Savings Credit Union.
Owners of
Advance Savings and The Rexton Credit Unions approved a
resolution to amalgamate late last fall. Advance Savings
Credit Union owners voted 95% in favour of amalgamation
while The Rexton Credit Union owners voted 75% in favour. A
two-thirds majority was required for the vote to be carried.
"I see this as
an opportunity to create a stronger, more viable
credit union presence in southeast New Brunswick which will
focus more resources on owner service,
relationship building and business development" said Don
Roper, President and CEO of Advance Savings. "The support
from our owners shows their conviction for just that – a
stronger, better credit union."
As part of the
amalgamation, Garth Lawson, formerly General Manager of The
Rexton Credit Union, was appointed Vice President of Sales
and Services and Janice Rice, formerly Chief Operating
Officer of Advance Savings Credit Union, was appointed Vice
President of Operations of the newly amalgamated Credit
Union.
"Both Mr. Lawson
and Ms. Rice have tremendous knowledge of the financial
services industry and a very deep understanding of the
credit union system," says Mr. Roper. "Their leadership
styles have produced outstanding results for both The Rexton
Credit Union and Advance Savings Credit Union for many
years."
Advance Savings
Credit Union, which now has 9,500 owners, employs 55 people
and has assets under administration of approximately $145
million, is dedicated to provide you with the most effective
financial services and wise financial guidance to empower
you to make the best decisions for your financial well
being. Advance Savings Credit Union currently has seven
branches serving Moncton, Petitcodiac, Port Elgin, Rexton,
Riverview and Salisbury.

Bringing two
successful credit unions together has its challenges but it
also has many advantages.
|
 |
For our owners the new Advance Savings Credit Union means
greater access and convenience through an expanded branch
network, enhanced products and services including wealth
management, continued financial security and stability, and
the same professional service from the same great people.
Our employees
now have more opportunities for advancement as well as
superior compensation and benefits programs.
Your
community will benefit from a continued support for small
businesses, and an increased involvement in and support of
local organizations.
It will take some time to fully bring our credit unions
together, but rest assured that your day-to-day banking
won’t be affected by the
|
amalgamation
– except, of course, that now you can visit us in even more
communities in New Brunswick. We’re also being careful to
minimize the costs and impact on the environment by using up
existing inventories of supplies whenever possible.
This is an exciting time to
be an owner of Advance Savings Credit Union!

a long-time resident of picturesque Port Elgin. Following
her graduation from Port Elgin Regional Memorial School she
started her career in the financial services industry,
working in several positions from teller to operations
officer. She joined Advance Savings Credit Union in 2001 and
just this fall accepted the position of branch manager.
"As a new
branch manager, I am looking forward to working toward
increasing membership at the Port Elgin branch of Advance
Savings," says Judy. "One of our goals is to ensure that all
our owners, whether current or future, receive professional
financial guidance."
Not only is
Judy busy managing the Credit Union, she is also actively
involved in the community. She was elected mayor of Port
Elgin this past year and she is helping the Port Elgin
Health Clinic, which is moving to the local community school
in the fall of 2009, with various fundraising projects.
In her spare
time, Judy enjoys spending time with her two daughters and
four grandchildren. During the summer months she loves RVing
at Murray Beach Provincial Park.

We're Bringing
Down Hunger
What happens
when you put an adventurous radio personality and a group of
Credit Unions together? They bring down hunger, one foot at
a time, that’s what!
Advance Savings
Credit Union along with other area Credit Unions and C103
sent midday radio announcer Tim Cormier 80 feet in the air
to help "Bring Down Hunger" and support Food Depot
Alimentaire’s Buy A Shelf Campaign. For every $50 raised,
Tim was lowered one foot. After 14.5 hours suspended in a
crane overlooking downtown Moncton, the call came in that
allowed Tim to finally put his feet back on solid ground and
brought the total raised to over $4000!

Viva la Peoples Park Tower!
Our St. George Boulevard branch staff recently changed out
of their office attire and donned dealer clothes when they
hosted the Advance Savings Credit Union Casino Night. The
evening was a huge success with close to 75 residents coming
out to participate in an evening filled with games and lots
of laughter. Pictured from left to right are Judy Strugnell,
